GENESEE COUNTY/Rochester man facing felony charges after an investigation into a Town of Elba burglary

On Tuesday, July 7, 2023, at 11:27 AM, the Genesee County Emergency Communication Center was contacted by a victim in the Town of Elba, reporting a burglary to a residence and detached buildings on the property.

Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputy J. McClellan responded and conducted an initial investigation. Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Investigators R. DeLong and H. Carlson additionally responded, photographing, collecting physical evidence and further investigating the incident.

The investigation developed a suspect identified as Omar Cabrera, 40, of Rochester, NY.

It is alleged that Cabrera, entered and remained unlawfully within the residence on the property and in doing so, caused property damage in excess of $250.00. While inside of the residence, it is alleged that Cabrera stole a quantity of copper fittings. It is further alleged that Cabrera entered and remained unlawfully within three detached buildings on the property with the intent to commit a crime therein.

On January 31, 2023, Cabrera was located in the City of Rochester with the assistance of the United States Marshals Task Force. Cabrera was transported to the Genesee County Jail where he was held until a Centralized Arraignment Program (CAP) Court.

Cabrera is charged with burglary 2nd degree, a class C felony, 3 counts of burglary 3rd degree a class D felony, criminal mischief 3rd degree, a class E felony, and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.

Cabrera was arraigned in front of the Honorable V. Williams of the Alabama Town Court and was remanded to the Genesee County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail, $20,000insurance bond or $40,000 partially secured bond.
