ORLEANS COUNTY/Varysburg man accused of taking money for work that was never completed after a two-county investigation

On January 25th, 2024, David J. Fladie, 35, of Varysburg, NY, was arrested on three counts of Grand Larceny in the 3rd Degree and three counts of Scheme to Defraud in the 1st Degree. The arrests involve three separate cases where Fladie acted as a contractor and accepted payments for work that was not either initiated or completed. The amount of funds taken from the victims totaled $63,700.

Fladie surrendered himself to Investigator Brian Marsceill at the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office, where he was processed and released. Later that same day, Fladie surrendered himself at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, where he was processed and released.

Fladie is to appear at later dates in the Town of Murray, Town of Clarendon, and Town of Clarkson Courts.

The arrests are the result of a several months-long cooperative investigation, led by the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, under the direction of Sheriff Christopher Bourke, and the New York State Department of Financial Services – Criminal Investigation Bureau, under the direction of Superintendent Adrienne A. Harris
