GWMEA (Genesee-Wyoming Music Educators Association) Instrumental & Vocal Solo Festival held at LeRoy Jr. Sr. High School

About 350 students from the area converged on LeRoy Jr. Sr. H.S. for the GWMEA (Genesee-Wyoming Music Educators Association) Instrumental & Vocal Solo Festival on Saturday.

Matthew Nordhausen, LeRoy Marching Knights Band Director and Percussion Instructor has organized the instrumental portion for the last 14 years at LeRoy.

A few years ago, the instrumental combined with the vocal section. Jacqueline McLean, Music Department Chairperson at LeRoy Schools, is organizing the vocal portion of the event.

“The students performing here today are both here for educational value and feedback from professional musicians on their primary instrument, but in addition to that, today is also an audition process, a competitive process for being selected into our All-County Band and Choruses,” says Nordhausen.

At the end of today, the students will be ranked and next week teachers will be announcing to their students if they made it to either All County Band or Chorus.
