ORLEANS COUNTY/Name of man who died in Sunday night fire released

On April 14th at approximately 11:42p.m., both the Albion Police Department and the Albion Fire Department were dispatched to 30 North Street for the reported house fire with one person trapped inside.

Upon arrival, neighbors were observed attempting to gain entry into the trailer. Albion Police officers along with the Albion Fire Department and Orleans County Sheriff’s Office also attempted to gain entry into the residence but were unsuccessful. Minutes later it became unsafe for all involved emergency responders and civilians to attempt to get into the residence, which was fully engulfed in flames.

The fire was contained at approximately 12:10a.m. and the sole resident/victim, 68-year-old William E. Christy was later pronounced dead at the scene.

At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown and is being investigated by State Fire Investigators.

The Albion Police Department and Albion Fire Department were assisted by the Orleans County Sheriff’s Office, the Orleans County Emergency Management Office, Critical Incident Stress Management team (CISM), State Fire Investigators and firefighters from Barre, Ridgeway, Carlton, Kendall, Medina and Shelby.
