BATAVIA/”Voices for Justice” Community Awareness Event looks at Crime Victims’ Rights and Human Trafficking

As part of Victims’ Crime Week, the Genesee County National Crime Victims’ Rights Committee held their “Voices for Justice” Community Awareness Event at Grace Baptist Church on Vine Street Monday morning. This year’s event looked into the problem of human trafficking, awareness and prevention.

The event featured the following speakers, who provided insights, expertise, and personal experiences related to human trafficking.

  • Sarah Hendee, Director of Development at Project Mona’s House, discussed anti-trafficking
    efforts in Western New York, focusing on prevention programs, survivor housing, and
    community outreach.
  • Gabriel Marcano, Human Trafficking Specialist at Worker’s Justice Center of NY, looked into
    the basics of labor trafficking, shedding light on its prevalence and implications.
  • Special Agent Joshua Haslinger from Homeland Security Investigations presented Project
    iGuardian, offering valuable information on combatting online exploitation and trafficking.
  • Chase Daniel Johnson, author of “The Chase of Authenticity,” who shared his personal experiences as a sex trafficking survivor.

Local service providers, were also available to speak to during the event.
