WNY/Scott Culp, Darwin Dale to be inducted into local bowling hall of fame on May 10

Press release:

Scott Culp of Honeoye Falls, one of the most prolific bowlers in Western New York over the past 20 years, and Darwin “Auggie” Dale of Piffard, a standout in the former Perry Bowling Association in the 1990s and early 2000s, will be inducted into the Genesee Region USBC Hall of Fame at the association’s annual banquet next month.

Culp is being enshrined in the Outstanding Achievement category while Dale is entering in the Outstanding Achievement, Veteran category.

The dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m. on May 10 at the Genesee Banquet Room at Batavia Downs Gaming on Park Road. Tickets are $40 per person. Reservations are being taken through May 3 by sending an email to mikep@bowlgr.com or calling 585-861-0404.

Culp has been a dominant force in three local associations – Genesee Region, Rochester NY and Canandaigua – since the mid-2000s, having earned numerous league and tournament titles while compiling an impressive record of 50-plus 800 series and close to 100 perfect games, including two “Sport” 300 games and one “Sport” 800 series.

He consistently posts league averages of 225 or better, with a high of 248 in 2013-14 at Bowl-A-Roll Lanes in Rochester (where he had a personal best 863 series in 2023). In the GRUSBC, Culp averaged 242 at Livingston Lanes in Geneseo in 2018-19, 232 at Mancuso Bowling Center in Batavia in 2022-23 and 228 at Mancuso’s this past season.

The high-revving 47-year-old right-hander is a five-time champion of the Genesee Region USBC Scratch Memorial Tournament (2017, 2018, 2020, 2023, 2024). In the GRUSBC Association Tournament, Culp posted a 775 series while teaming up with Rob Gustke to win the Doubles event this season after capturing the All-Events crown in 2024.

He also has two New York State Open Championship titles (2018, posting an 842 series with partner Jeff Fetzner, and 2012, posting 822 with partner Ray Mann) and has cashed several times at the USBC Open Championships.

Dale, a 65-year-old righty, excelled in the Perry Association prior to its merger with the Batavia Bowling Association and Genesee Valley Women’s Bowling Association to form the Genesee Region USBC in 2006.

He rolled three 800 series – 804 and 803 in 2002 and 836 in 2003 – and six 300 games from 1994-2003, while capturing the Naples Shootout tournament from 1997-1999 and the Cal Bowl Shootout tournament in 1996, 1998, 2001 and 2002. Also in 2002, he combined with Brian Weber to place first in the Perry Association Doubles event.

League titles included the Friday Classic League at Livingston Lanes in 1998 and the Cal Bowl Scratch League in 2003. Dale led the Friday Classic League in average from 1994-96 and in 1998.

Unfortunately, a neck injury that required surgery put Dale on the sidelines for almost 15 years. He has returned to league bowling, however, and recorded another 300 game in January of this year at Mount Morris Lanes. He also placed fourth with Dave Keller in this season’s Association Tournament Doubles event at Rose Garden Bowl in Bergen.
