For the first time, the Batavia Community Garden is full for the season. According to Jocelyn Sikorski/Executive Director of Cornell Cooperative Extension, all 49 beds have been leased. They sold out at the end of March. The garden is located at 12 MacArthur Drive and was started in 2012. It will open for the season on Saturday.
Today, 15 members of the Community Committee were on hand to continue the work they started on Saturday. Most of the wooden beds have been replaced with galvanized steel. Master Gardener, Irene Hickey says now is the time to plant peas, lettuce, spinach and beets.
If interested in adding your name to the waiting list for an open bed, contact the Cornell Cooperative Extension at 585-343-3040.
