PERRY, NY- Chief Michael J. Grover reports the arrest of a Perry resident following a domestic incident on Hope Street in the Village of Perry on June 4, 2025, around 5:30pm.
Police were called to a residence on Hope Street in the Village of Perry on Wednesday for a report of a domestic incident and a person who was reportedly struck a car. A Perry Police Department Officer arrived on scene to find a female, later identified as Meaghan Schiavi, no age or address provided, exiting a car that was parked over the curb across from the Hope Street address. Schiavi was pulling a child out of the vehicle and then leaving the scene.
Statements from a male on scene indicated a tug-of-war allegedly occurred over the child with Schiavi allegedly ripping the child from the male’s arms and placing the child into a car without a car seat. The male, who was the father of the child, stood behind the vehicle attempting to prevent the mother from leaving. The male stated that Schiavi allegedly hit him twice with the vehicle before he moved out of the way, avoiding getting hit a third time, all while on the phone with 911. The male then stated that he had no injuries and did not wish to pursue charges after allegedly getting hit with the car.
Police say Schiavi then came back to the scene where she attempted to get into her vehicle and flee. The Officer stepped between her and the driver’s seat stopping her from entering her vehicle. The officer and a Wyoming County Sheriff’s deputy, that just arrived on scene, escorted Schiavi to the front of her vehicle where she became irate, prompting the deputy and officer to detain her in handcuffs and read her her rights before the officer continued to further investigate the incident.
Schiavi was charged with harassment 2nd degree, a violation, endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, and a felony aggravated family offense due to a previous contempt of court charge from October 2022. She was transported to the Perry Police Department where she was processed and later arraigned by the Honorable Judge Wolcott where she was issued a refrain from Order of Protection from the male party and child involved in the incident.
She was released on her own recognizance with a court date later in June for the Village of Perry Court.
