The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single tractor-trailer motor vehicle collision that occurred on Arnold Road in the Town of Elba on Wednesday June 11, 2025.
The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting the accident at 11: 18AM. The initial report was of a single tractor-trailer rollover. When patrols arrived on scene, the vehicle was rolled over in the ditch and the victim was trapped in the vehicle.
Multiple Fire Departments along with Genesee County Emergency Management, Mercy EMS and the Batavia Police Department were on scene to assist.
The preliminary investigation shows that a 2015 Freightliner hauling liquid manure was southbound on Arnold Road and was negotiating a left curve in the roadway and started to roll and eventually landed on its roof. The driver, later identified as Joseph Merica, 62, of Le Roy NY, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Coroners Lang and Newton.
The primary cause of the accident is still under investigation.
