McKenzie Barclay, a 7-year-old student in Mrs. Coniglio’s class at Byron Bergen Elementary, created a monster on paper called Snackr during the school year. In April, her parents were advised that McKenzie’s artwork was shared in a special Monster Madness book as part of the Young Artist drawing contest, the contest was open to children ages 4-12.

Snackr, a monster McKenzie created, appeared in the collection of books called Monster Madness, published earlier this month

McKenzie was chosen as 1 of only 142 students across the United States as a contest winner in the Young Artists competition.

“To say I was proud when I received the letter asking permission for her artwork to be published in a book, there’s not enough words to describe it,” says her mom.

Snackr is now one of her proudest accomplishments. McKenzie received a certificate and a sticker.

“McKenzie loves art, my dining room became her “office” months ago so her art supplies wouldn’t take up her space in her bedroom.”

According to the Young Artists, having works published in a real book gives children a real sense of pride as well as being a keepsake.

Each school also receives a free copy of the book.

Next year, McKenzie is determined to make it to the cover her mom says.

  1. Except this article makes it out like she is the only one. Almost every single student if not all of them in 1st grade from Byron-Bergen are published in this book.
