With several key players cleared to return to the gridiron, the Genesee County Spartans resume their Northeastern Football Alliance season this Saturday against the Southern Tier Stallions.
Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Pembroke Town Park field.
Head Coach Harry Rascoe said he has put in some “new wrinkles” to capitalize on the versatility of quarterback Aiden Pitts, who excelled as the replacement for Corey Turpin in an 18-14 loss to undefeated Lockport on June 28th.
Turpin suffered a season-ending injury in the June 21st contest against the Upstate Predators.
Pitts threw for two touchdown passes against Lockport and, barring injury, will be the team’s signal caller the rest of the way. Genesee County, 1-4, hosts the Lake Erie Power Pines on July 19 and will receive a forfeit victory on July 26.
The semipro league’s playoffs begin on Aug. 2.
Rascoe said that defensive linemen Gunner Rapone, Nick Mitchell and Alex Schmidt and wide receiver Deyonci Farley, who have been sidelined by injury, will suit up this Saturday.
