Genesee County is commending the unified response of local first responders, county departments, regional partners, and state agencies following the tragic tour bus crash on the
New York State Thruway this past weekend.
This incident underscored the vital importance of preparation and planning, as every layer of the
county’s emergency response system was called into action. The coordinated effort demonstrated how
those plans come together in moments of crisis, relying on clear communication and collaboration
across many agencies.

Sheriff Joseph Graff praised the dedication of law enforcement and dispatchers, stating:
“During moments like these, the men and women of the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office continually
demonstrate the highest standards of service. Our deputies and emergency services dispatchers worked
tirelessly alongside the New York State Police, our regional law enforcement partners, and the first
responders from across the region, showing the true strength that comes from teamwork and an
unwavering commitment to public safety. It is an honor to work with such dedicated individuals, and I
thank them for their steadfast commitment. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the individuals and
families impacted.”

Tim Yaeger, Director of Emergency Management, recognized the magnitude of the regional response:
“Our prayers are with the families and loved ones affected by this tragedy. I want to thank the dozens of
agencies that responded or supported rescue and recovery efforts from across the region and the state.
Words are not enough to express our gratitude for the strength, courage, and dedication shown. Being
on the frontlines is never easy, but it is deeply appreciated. First responders make our community and
our region a better, safer place to live, and their commitment in times like this cannot be overstated.”
County Manager Matt Landers highlighted the collaboration across county departments:
“In the face of this tragedy, I want to acknowledge the Sheriff’s Office and our county departments who
worked alongside first responders with coordination, professionalism, and care. From law enforcement
to emergency management, health, mental health, social services, and our dispatchers, each played an
important role. Their dedication was evident in every step of the response, and I am proud of their
response.”
Legislative Chair Shelley Stein extended the appreciation and support of the Genesee County
Legislature:
“On behalf of the Genesee County Legislature, I extend our sincere appreciation to first responders across
every municipality. Your commitment to protecting lives, grounded in discipline and rigorous training, is
the foundation of public safety. We see the work you do, we recognize the weight you carry, and we
stand with you in support.”
Genesee County extends its condolences to the victims and their families and gratitude to every
individual and agency that stood together in unified service during this devastating incident.
