The Walk for Alzheimer’s in Batavia was held on Saturday morning with over 300 people participating. The walk was just under 2 miles.
Walk Manager Lynn Hughes says we have now moved from the era of research to the era of treatment.
“So now we have new treatment that helps with the onset of early Alzheimer’s, not only the detection but actually stopping what they call the plaques in the brain, so there are new medications for that, and this is a huge break through. So, we continue by fundraising and raising awareness.”
Each participant was able to place a flower in the promise flower garden. Purple is in memory of someone; blue represents someone living with Alzheimer’s, orange is for general support and yellow is for caregivers. The white flower represents the youth, that they will never see Alzheimer’s. There were also basket raffles to raise funds for the Genesee/Wyoming community.
So far, $71,200 has been raised, the goal is $120,000.

Parading for Pa and Grandma raised $32,000. In the video below, they kick of the 2025 Walk from Centennial Park in Batavia on Saturday morning. The team consists of Nancy Hunt, Diane Corcoran, and Tom Corcoran, who are walking in memory of their mother Susan Hunt who passed away this year.
