At approximately 5:37 p.m., the Wyoming County 911 Center received a report of a car versus
train accident with injuries on Chaffee Road in the Town of Java.
A Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the scene and determined that a 2022
Chevrolet Malibu, operated by Brenden Clayton, 22, of Java, NY, was traveling westbound on Chaffee Road, when it struck an Attica and Arcade Railroad train that was crossing the roadway.
At the time of the collision, there were approximately 174 passengers on board the train. None of
the train passengers reported injuries as a result of the accident.
Clayton was evaluated at the scene by emergency medical personnel and was later released.
As a result of the investigation, Clayton was issued a citation for speed not reasonable or
prudent.
The accident remains under investigation.
