SILVER SPRINGS — Starting out as a direct support professional 16 years ago at The Arc, Adam Moore has climbed the ladder to the title of senior director of Clinical Services.
Moore’s journey in the field didn’t start in New York, but in southeast Kansas. Upon arriving in New York, everyone kept recommending one place where he should apply; The Arc.
“Family has been central to the identity of Arc GLOW … and immediately that’s what I felt, and have felt, with the agency for a long time,” he said.
Moore started his career as an overnight direct support professional (DSP) at one of the individualized residential alternatives (IRAs) in Warsaw before being promoted to assistant residential manager then residential manager — all within the same home.
He later was promoted to the position of residential services manager and again to director of residential services.
As the senior director of clinical services, Moore has oversight over Arc GLOW’s clinical team and implementation of clinical supports for the people Arc GLOW supports. He said while he has always loved the residential services Arc GLOW provides, having the right clinical supports impacts every aspect of a person’s life, no matter what program they are in.
“During the course of his tenure here with Arc, Adam achieved a master’s degree in Psychology, and he is currently the vice chairperson of the Wyoming County Community Services Board, and a member of the Wyoming County Community Services Developmental Disabilities Sub-Committee. Additionally, he is an active member of our Human Rights Committee and Incident Review Committee, and a regular participant in the New York State Trauma Informed Care Network and Arc New York sponsored Residential Collaboratives,” said Deb Tuckerman, Arc GLOW vice president of Residential Services.
“Adam has developed a reputation for being a strong advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, both within our agency and throughout countless community organizations and hospitals, and I have every bit of confidence that he will be a tremendous leader for our clinical team,” she continued.
Moore attended Southern New Hampshire University for both his bachelor of science in human services and masters in psychology. He completed the bachelor’s program Summa Cum Laude while working as a residential manager, and with a newborn. Moore earned his masters while working as coordinator of Residential Services and becoming director of Residential Services.
“I also had the great benefit of receiving the Jonathan Weingold scholarship through The Arc New York,” Moore said. “Arc GLOW was also helpful with our tuition reimbursement program.”
Moore lives outside of Silver Springs on a hobby farm with a wife and two young children; a daughter who is in first grade and a son who is just about to celebrate his first birthday. Moore’s nephew, who will be a senior this year, also lives with the family.
“The people that I have a great pleasure to work with both as people receiving services and coworkers have left lifelong impacts,” he said. “I don’t think that’s something that is easy to find other places.”
