Press release
New York State Environmental Facilities Corporation (EFC) President and CEO Maureen A. Coleman recently announced that the city of Batavia was a recipient of a $12 million grant from the NYS Intermunicipal Water Infrastructure Grant (IMG) program, which is administered
through EFC.
The funding will be used for various infrastructure upgrades for the city’s wastewater facility as part of a planned $30 million initiative. The project will address several critical needs at the City’s wastewater facility, including the replacement of aeration equipment, removal and disposal of sludge from ponds, installation of an effluent lift station, installation of a filtration system, associated building, and chemical dosing systems for both treatment chemicals and bioaccumulation bacteria and the addition of a new emergency generator to ensure uninterrupted service.
“We are extremely grateful to New York State Governor Kathy Hochul and the Environmental
Facilities Corporation for this critically important funding that will be used to increase the facility’s
efficiency, reliability, and compliance with evolving environmental regulations,” said Batavia City
Manager Rachael Tabelski.
“These infrastructure improvements will replace aging and outdated equipment and implement advanced treatment processes better positioning the City to protect local waterways and maintain high-quality service for our residents.”
The City’s application received advocacy support from various entities across the city and region,
including New York State Senator George Borrello, New York State Assemblyman Stephen Hawley, the
Genesee County Legislature and various County Departments, Genesee County Economic Development
Center, Batavia School District, Batavia Housing Authority, Rochester Regional Health and the GLOW
YMCA.
