The residency requirement for the Deputy Sheriff civil service continuous recruitment exam has recently been expanded to include legal residents living in any county contiguous to Genesee County (Erie, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans or Wyoming), for at least two months immediately preceding the date of the written examination. This change allows a broader pool of candidates from neighboring counties to apply and sit for the exam, increasing accessibility and recruitment opportunities. However, candidates should be aware that while they may take the exam as legal residents of a bordering county, they must establish residency within Genesee County at time of appointment. Proof of residency will be required prior to appointment.

Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
Written exam is being given May 9, 2026.

This title is part of the NYS HELP program; no exam is required.
