Law Street is closed due to flooding
Press release
The City of Batavia is currently experiencing localized flooding due to ongoing conditions, and residents are urged to use caution. At this time, Law Street is closed to all traffic due to significant flooding. Ganson Avenue is beginning to experience rising water levels and may become impassable. Additionally, Kibbe Park is completely flooded, with areas of swift-moving water creating dangerous conditions.

Ganson Avenue at 2PM Wednesday

Kibbe Park at 2PM Wednesday
Action stage for the Tonawanda is 7 feet, with minor flooding occurring at 9 feet, moderate flooding at 10 feet and major flooding at 12 feet. As of 2:00pm the level has risen to 10.77 feet. The National Water Prediction Service has estimated that we reached the crest and water level should slowly rescind into the evening.
Residents are strongly advised to avoid these areas and not attempt to drive or walk through flooded roadways or park areas. Even shallow water can pose serious risks, including vehicle damage, personal injury, or being swept away by current.

Homeowner safety tips:
If water reaches or is approaching a furnace or hot water tank, they should shut off power to the area if it can be done safely (from a dry location).
Do not attempt to relight pilot lights if the appliance has been exposed to water—this can create a fire or explosion hazard.
Gas appliances that have been in contact with water should be inspected by a qualified technician before being put back into service.
Monitor for basement flooding or sump pump performance.
Monitor nearby streams, ditches, and culverts for rising water or blockages.
If you have any water near electrical systems or appliances disconnect power if safe to do so.
If there is any smell of gas, leave the home immediately and call 911.

City crews are actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as conditions change. Please seek alternate routes, remain alert, and report any hazardous conditions to local authorities.
For emergencies, dial 911. For non-emergency concerns, contact the City of Batavia Fire Department.
Thank you
Chief Joshua Graham
