Press release
On May 12, 2026, at approximately 11:36 p.m., the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office 911
Center received notification from the United States Border Patrol regarding a vehicle that had
fled from agents in Erie County and was believed to be traveling eastbound into Wyoming
County.
During the incident in Erie County, the suspect vehicle reportedly rammed a Border
Patrol vehicle before fleeing the scene.
A Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputy later located the vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 20A,
west of the Village of Warsaw. Deputies from the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, officers
from the Village of Warsaw Police Department, and members of the New York State Police
attempted to stop the vehicle within the Village of Warsaw. The operator refused to comply and
continued fleeing eastbound on Route 20A.
Due to the increasing speeds and concern for public safety, a Sheriff’s Office supervisor ordered
the pursuit be terminated. Shortly afterward, the suspect vehicle pulled over and the operator fled
on foot.
Officers from the above agencies, along with officers from Perry Police Department, conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the suspect at that time.
At approximately 2:28 a.m., the Wyoming County 911 Center received a call from a Spanish speaking male in the area of Coe Road and Bauer Road in the Town of Perry stating that he wished to surrender. The caller advised dispatchers that he had fled from police and was unarmed.
Ericson I. Vasquez-Moran, 22, of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, was taken into custody and charged with Speeding, Failure to Keep Right, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer, Reckless Driving, and Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree.
Vasquez-Moran was issued appearance tickets for the Village of Warsaw Court and released to the custody of the United States Border Patrol.
I find it odd that in writing this article, the author omitted (by mistake I hope) the most significant part of the story. The suspect did not just stop his car for no reason and take off on foot, the two brave officers of the New York State police deployed spike strips that rendered the vehicle unusable. It was only because of their bravery that the suspect was forced to flee on foot.
I find this negligence of omitting the actions of the brave men and women of our troopers and other law enforcement agencies appalling and becoming common practice by news media and other organizations.
In the future I would hope you will report the news that includes all the facts every time and not when it suits your agenda.
Amen. This has become a very common practice of the news media. Of course, if their actions had caused to have the suspect to crashed his car off the side of the road and flipped over causing him injury…you can bet they would have demanded the Badges of those brave Law enforcement officers.
