Assistant Chief of Police with the City of Batavia, Matthew Lutey, says Batavia Police responded to the Batavia Middle School on Ross Street on Wednesday, May 13th, 2026, at about 2:38 pm, for a reported disturbance.
Upon arrival, officers received information that the initially reported disturbance involved two separate incidents, both of which were de-escalated by school staff prior to police arrival.
“No weapons were involved, no injuries were reported, and no charges were filed. The matters will be handled by the school,” says Lutey.
In a school notification to parents and guardians at Batavia Middle School, a Hold in Place was initiated to safely resolve the incidents and to ensure the safety and well-being of all students and staff. The situations were quickly resolved by administrators, and the School Resource Officer and students were safely dismissed once the situations were resolved.
