“Sadly, it was just announced Rayzor, our current K9, will be retiring this fall. This non-profit was created to help raise funds to purchase him another K9 dog brother,” says Paws for Justice organizer Barb Starowitz.
Paws for Justice Inc. was created at the end of May and is raising funds for a new K-9 dog at the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department. Funds can only be raised through private donations says Starowitz.
“He’s unsung hero, from finding lost people, saving their lives in freezing temperatures to stopping bad people from running away from law enforcement, plus everything in between, says Statowitz. He’s not in the local news but is a hidden asset on the force working with our Sheriff’s Department handler Deputy James Stack.”

K-9, Rayzor, a male German Shepherd Malinois, started his tour of duty in Genesee County in March of 2020 with his handler, Deputy James D. Stack.
Stack has been with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Department for 9 years and the last 6 years as a K9 handler.
Rayzor was named to honor of Genesee County Correction Officer Raymond F. Thompson who passed away while performing his duties in the morning hours of May 30, 2002.
