GENESEE COUNTY/Town of Batavia names their future public park on Park Road

The Town of Batavia has officially named their future public park Guardian’s Park. The Park Committee unanimously submitted the name, and the Town Board approved the name at Wednesday evening’s regular Town Board meeting.

Town Supervisor Greg Post says the park needed a name to continue to apply for funding. The Town has nearly completed their their plans for the park.

“We seek funding every time funding opportunities come out, we seek funding from public and private agencies to move this forward,” says Post.

The entire park as it is designed now, is pegged at about $3million.  The design was completed using Ralph Wilson Grant monies.

“The state had limited CFA money (municipal parks and recreation grant within the consolidated funding application) last year, so our application was not funded. We intend on continuing to look for grants that match up with the scope of the park project as they are announced by the state,” says Assistant Town Engineer, Steve Tanner.

The park is located at 990 Park Road in the Town of Batavia.

“This will allow the town of Batavia to honor every service provider, every emergency responder, police, fire, all five-armed forces, Coast Guard, Marines, everybody is considered a guardian, and it was the most universal and resilient name for those that we’re proposing to honor by this park, and who this park is going to be dedicated to and serve into the future. It’s got different agencies, federal and county agencies of law enforcement on either side, and Veterans Administration behind it. It makes our mission clearer if we name it for those who have served our community and given their lives to be honored there,” says Post.
