The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred in the area of 9281 Ellinwood Road, in the Town of Pembroke. The Genesee County Emergency Dispatch Center received the 9-1-1 call on June 20, 2026, reporting the personal injury accident at 7:00 PM.
Upon arrival, patrols observed that a black Yamaha ATV had collided with a tree. Deputies identified the operator and sole occupant of the ATV as Michael J. Wlttmeyer, age 23, of Batavia, NY.
Wittmeyer was traveling northbound on Ellinwood Road and failed to navigate the of the bend of the road. Wittmeyer exited the roadway, where he struck a tree and was ejected from the ATV. EMS personnel attempted life-saving measures, but Wittmeyer was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Genesee County Coroner’ s Office.
The crash is currently being investigated by the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office. Assisting at the scene were of the Genesee County Coroner’s Office, Corfu Police Department, Mercy EMS, Corfu Fire Department, and various other members of volunteer fire organizations.
