Press release
Law enforcement agencies across Genesee County, including the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Batavia Police Department, will participate in a coordinated STOP-DWI enforcement effort aimed at reducing impaired driving and saving lives.
The Statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign is active throughout the summer, with enforcement efforts taking place every weekend from Thursday through Sunday. For the Independence Day holiday, the campaign will run from Thursday, July 2, 2026, through Sunday, July 5, 2026.
The campaign combines increased law enforcement presence with public education to deter individuals from driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other impairing substances. This initiative is part of a nationwide effort supported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to ensure everyone gets home safely.
Have a Plan for a Safe Ride Home
§ Designate a driver before you go out.
§ Impairment begins with the first drink. Call a taxi, a rideshare service, or contact a sober friend or family member for a ride.
§ If someone has been drinking, take their keys and help them arrange safe transportation home.
STOP-DWI efforts across New York State have made significant progress in reducing alcohol- and drug- related traffic fatalities. However, impaired driving continues to affect our community every day. For more information, visit www.geneseeny.gov/stop-dwi.
Make a positive impact – choose to drive sober.
