The developer of the Ellicott Station, now in its 10th year since being introduced to the public by City of Batavia officials, on Thursday said he’s hoping to begin work on the commercial portion of the mixed-use project at 50-56 Ellicott St.
“We’re about 98 percent done” with the 55-unit apartment building,” said Samuel Savarino, chief executive officer and president of Savarino Companies of Buffalo. “And, I believe, we’re scheduled to meet with the planners (City Planning & Development Committee) at their August meeting (regarding the commercial/retail/brewery space).”

The agenda of the Aug. 18 PDC meeting has yet to be announced.
Savarino said that he had to submit new plans on behalf of Ellicott Station Commercial LLC to the planning committee in order to eventually obtain a building permit. He said the plans have to line up with the city’s updated 2026 building code.
No work has been done on the commercial structure, which formerly was owned by Soccio & Della Penna construction company.

As far as the apartment complex is concerned, Savarino said work took longer than expected but is almost finished. After that, he said he hopes to finalize a purchase agreement with PathStone Development Corp. of Rochester, which has signed on to buy and operate the facility.
Previously, Savarino pegged the purchase price at around $17 million.
“We have signed an agreement to purchase but it would close after we complete the construction, Savarino said.
Hopefully as originally planned to be moderate income based so it won’t become a problem area for the citizens of Batavia. I believe at this point they have enough lower income housing. The green space part needs to be conducive to younger people.
Well are going to take the peoples in there from before with the picking the numbers first time around?? Cuz I was the 4 th one picked…????!!
