Press release
Mike Bauer has been named Head Varsity Football Coach for the Notre Dame/ Byron-Bergen Varsity football team.
Coach Bauer attended Buffalo’s Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School and Medaille College. In high school, he
played running back and cornerback and went on to play lacrosse in college. He formerly coached at Bishop
Timon-St. Jude as a JV Assistant Coach and St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute as a freshman head coach.
He credits his dad for introducing him to the game of football at a young age and teaching him that football is
about much more than wins and losses—it’s about discipline, hard work, accountability, and building
relationships. His dad also sparked his love for coaching by giving him the opportunity to help him coach youth
football when he was just 17 years old. From those early days coaching alongside his dad, his journey has
included the opportunity to lead young athletes both on and off the field. His goal has always been to develop not
only better football players, but better young men.
When asked to comment on his hiring, Coach Bauer said, “I’m incredibly excited and honored to become the new
head coach of the Notre Dame Byron-Bergen Varsity Football Team. This is a special opportunity to lead a program
with a proud tradition and an amazing community behind it. I’m looking forward to building strong relationships with
our players, coaches, families, and alumni while creating a culture built on hard work, accountability, discipline, and
family. My goal is to help these young men grow not only as football players, but as leaders and people. I can’t wait
to get to work and help write the next chapter of Notre Dame football.”
Bauer also was a 14 U Head Coach for West Seneca Youth Football and has become actively involved in the local
sports community, specifically with the Batavia Bulldawgs and Batavia Lacrosse, Coach Bauer is currently employed
in outside sales with Southern Tier Electric Supply. He and his wife Sarah live in Batavia with their three children.
