GENESEE COUNTY/Oakfield/Sheriff’s Office issues a Public Safety Alert after attempted robbery

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is requesting the public’s assistance in investigating an attempted robbery/purse
snatching that occurred during the early morning hours of August 2, 2026, in the Village of Oakfield.

Deputies report that a disabled individual was walking near 15 South Main Street when she was approached by an unknown white male believed to be in his early 20s. The suspect is described as approximately 6 feet tall, with a slender build, brown hair and wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt.

The investigation remains active.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area or who may have surveillance or camera footage from the early morning hours of August 2 is encouraged to contact the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office reminds residents to remain vigilant and take the following safety precautions:

*Stay aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions such as looking at your phone while walking.
*Whenever possible, walk with another person, especially during late night or early morning hours.
*Travel in well-lit, populated areas and avoid isolated locations whenever possible.
*Keep purses, bags, and belongings secured and close to your body.

If you observe suspicious behavior, trust your instincts, move to a safe location, and immediately contact law enforcement. If confronted by a suspect, your personal safety is the priority. Be the best witness you can by observing the suspect’s appearance. direction of travel and any vehicle involved. Report suspicious persons or activity promptly.
