Batavia, NY – The Genesee County Democratic Committee announced today that their local candidates pledge to oppose data center construction in Genesee County amid growing community concerns. This means the Democrat candidates running for New York Senate and New York State Assembly in addition to the Democrat Congressional Candidate will fight data center development.

“It’s not a debate,” said Sarah Wolcott. “It’s our community, we live here, we say no. The discussion should be what does the community want instead. For two decades, the GCEDC has failed to bring sustained business development to STAMP, it’s clear we need to rethink this approach and investment.” Wolcott is a Batavia, NY resident running for New York State Assembly this year against Steve Hawley.

“At a time when people are divided on so many issues, it speaks volumes that the community is unified in our fight against the data centers,” said Victoria Guite. Guite is a resident of Alabama, NY running for New York State Senate this November against George Borrello. Guite further elaborated on her passion for fighting this data centers at her Town Hall event in Warsaw this month citing it as one of the critical issues that made her run for office.

Alissa Ellman echoed these remarks at the same Warsaw Town Hall event sharing her thoughts on how these projects impact utilities for residents and reaffirming her stance that we need to fight back. Ellman is a U.S. Army veteran and current resident of Lockport, NY. She is running for United States House of Representatives this November against Claudia Tenney.

For those who have questions about our candidate’s commitment to fighting data centers, the GCDC will be hosting a Meet-and-Greet with all three candidates at 6pm on October 6th at the Richmond Memorial Library in Batavia. All are encouraged to attend regardless of party affiliation
