Batavia City School District’s Jackson Primary recognized as a PLC at Work Promising Practices School

Press release

Batavia City School District is proud to announce that Jackson Primary, including the kindergarten and first-grade classrooms, has been recognized as a Professional Learning Communities (PLC) at Work Promising Practices School by Solution Tree, a national leader in educational professional development.

The recognition acknowledges Jackson Primary’s commitment to ensuring high levels of learning for all students through the implementation of the PLC at Work process, a collaborative approach focused on continuous school improvement and student achievement.

According to Solution Tree, schools receiving the Promising Practices designation have demonstrated a strong foundation in the PLC process and have provided evidence of student growth in a defined area through at least one year of data collection and analysis. The designation represents  the first step toward becoming a Model PLC at Work School, a distinction earned by schools that demonstrate sustained improvement over multiple years.

“This recognition reflects the commitment our staff has made to work together, analyze student needs and continue refining instruction to help every child succeed,” said Principal Maureen Notaro. “We are honored to be recognized by Solution Tree and remain committed to continuous improvement and student success.”

The PLC at Work model emphasizes teamwork, data-driven decision-making and a collective responsibility for student learning. Through this process, educators collaborate regularly to analyze student progress, identify effective instructional strategies and ensure every student receives the support needed to succeed.

As part of the recognition, Jackson Primary received a commemorative certificate and flag to proudly display within the school community.

Superintendent Jason Smith praised the accomplishment, noting that the recognition reflects the District’s ongoing commitment to excellence.

“Jackson Primary’s recognition highlights the incredible work happening in our classrooms every day,” Smith said. “This achievement demonstrates the dedication  of our staff to fostering student growth and building a culture of continuous improvement. We are proud of the Jackson Primary team for earning this well-deserved honor.”

Jackson Primary will continue its PLC journey by building upon the practices that led to this achievement and striving toward future recognition as a Model PLC at Work School.
