ALEXANDER/Community gathers to remember teen who died in motor vehicle accident on Sunday

About 200 people gathered at Alexander High School on Monday night to pay tribute and remember 17 year old Brian West Jr.

West died after a motor vehicle accident Sunday night on West Bethany road.

Alexander Football Coach and Teacher Tim Sawyer along with family friend Andrew Young spoke to the kids, family and community about the need to talk to each other and coming together to help in the healing process.

“A few hundred people show up here at the spur of the moment, there is a reason for that, part of it is Brian and his legacy and part of it is his family, but I think more of it is this community and the fact that we have to be together and stick together and understand what each other is going through,” says Andrew Young, parent and friend of the family.

After the vigil, students gathered on the football field to let 17 lanterns go in memory of Brian.

Calling hours for Brian West Jr. will be Thursday July 13th from 2:00p.m-7:00p.m at the Alexander Fireman’s Recreation Hall on Rt. 98 in Alexander.

A 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian burial will take place July 14th at St. Joachim and Anne Parish at 50 East Avenue in Attica.
