HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL/ Alexander @ Pembroke/ Alexander remains unbeaten after shutting out Pembroke

The Alexander Trojans showed up ready to play in Pembroke on Friday night.

On Pembroke’s first possession, the Trojan defense recovered a fumble with Matt Gaiser gathering up the ball. That set up the Trojan’s first touchdown at 11:18 of the first quarter, sending running back Chris McClinic down the field on a 30 yard run to make it 6-0.

With 21 seconds remaining in the first quarter, McClinic intercepted Reid Miano’s pass to set up his second touchdown of the night in the second quarter.

McClinic scampered down the field for 66 yards with 10:52 left in the first half to make the score 12-0.

At the end of the 2nd quarter, the Dragons strung together a series of passes to make it to the red zone, but failed to connect for a score with the last play of the half being an interception by Alexander’s Grant Cox in a pass play to the end zone.

In the second half, the Trojans sealed the deal, running down the clock and holding on to the ball on their drive to a touchdown with 7 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Terez Smith ran one in for 6 more and the two point conversion was good and the Trojans held a 20-0 lead.

Alexander went on to win by the score of 34-0 and are 2-0 on the season. They will play the Holley Hawks at home next week.
