HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL/Aquinas @Batavia/Batavia suffers first loss in three years in home opener

The Batavia Blue Devils lost their first game in three seasons at the hands of Aquinas on Saturday night.

The Li’l Irish got on the board first in the first quarter with a 6 yard pass play to James Jones to make it 6-0. The extra point was good.

The Blue Devils responded in the second quarter with a Ray Leach scamper to the end zone to make it 6-7, but the extra point was no good.

On the kickoff, T.J. Jones returned the ball 91 yards, breaking tackles and plowing through the Batavia defense to make the score 13-6, the extra point was good.

Shane Noble Jr. added a touchdown towards the end of the second quarter and Aquinas held a 21-6 lead at the half.

In the third, Caron Robinson added a touchdown with 5:49 left in the quarter and Batavia could not find answers to the Aquinas game.

After the 91 yard return, Batavia was not able to keep up with Li’l Irish who went on to win the game 42-6 in their first win of the season.

Batavia, now 1-1, will travel to Tonawanda next Saturday and play Cardinal O’Hara.
