WYOMING COUNTY/Letchworth/No threat at high school this morning

Press release

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and School Resource Officer have been working with the Administration of the Letchworth Central School District regarding a perceived threat made on social media.

A high school student was identified by other students through social media as the source and that identified student and family have been cooperating with school officials and investigators.

There was not nor is there a threat to the Letchworth Central School District.

Due to the nature of social media, the perceived threat has either been seen or reported or rumored in several different ways and times making it appear it is recurring over and over in different formats.

In light of recent events and to ensure community confidence, additional patrols were at the Letchworth Central School District this morning along with their School Resource Officer, also a Deputy Sheriff. We are thankful to the students who reported what they seen or heard whether it was firsthand knowledge or not.

Although the investigation is ongoing, we were able to immediately investigate and determine there was no actual threat to the campus, staff or students. School safety is our number one priority and we are grateful to share that mission with the highly professional staff of the Letchworth Central School District. The product is an atmosphere where reporting is embraced, which is the number one defense in our current school safety environment.
