WYOMING COUNTY/Hazmat response to Attica Correctional Facility

A State Police Hazmat crew responded to the Attica Correctional Facility on Wednesday afternoon after local hazmat crews from Wyoming and Genesee Counties arrived on scene and stood by in front of the Correctional Facility on Exchange street about 12:30p.m.

According to Trooper James O’Callaghan, the State Police team responded to an incident where a letter was opened inside the facility and the envelope contained a white powdery substance. The hazmat team went inside and tested the powder and it was negative for biohazardous materials.

The facility remained opened during the incident and no one was evacuated outside of the correctional facility.

After the State Police Hazmat team exited the facility, Wyoming and Genesee County Hazmat crews were released from the scene.
