WYOMING COUNTY/Covington/Tanker rolls over spilling manure into creek

A little before 11:00a.m., Pavilion Fire along with Wyoming County Emergency Management, DEC, Wyoming County Sheriff’s and State Police responded to Old State road and Silver Lake road in Covington for a tanker truck rollover.

The tanker truck, which was carrying 9,000 gallons of liquid manure according to Wyoming County Emergency Management, lost 4,500 gallons of it’s load. The liquid manure spilled onto the side of the road and into Pearl Creek . The Hazmat team was requested, but was not deployed.

The driver of the tanker truck was not injured.

For most of the afternoon Old State road was closed to traffic as work crews worked to offload the remaining liquid manure from the tanker so it could be up-righted and removed.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident and possible charges are pending.
