WYOMING COUNTY/Perry/Two being assisted by the Red Cross after apartment fire

Two women are being assisted by the Red Cross after a fire in their second floor apartment above the Perry Bowling Center at 22 Covington street in the Village of Perry.

Five fire companies responded to a reported structure fire about 3:00p.m. on Monday. Crews from Perry, Perry Center, Silver Springs, Castile, Warsaw, Wyoming County Emergency Services, Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office, Perry Police, NYSEG and the Red Cross were on scene about 4.5 hours.

The Perry Bowling Center, owned by Brett and Joanne VanDuser, was open and operating with customers inside when a fire in a wall in a second story apartment spread to the large attic area above the apartments. The other apartment on the second story was vacant at the time of the fire.

The building was evacuated and no one was injured in the blaze.

Estimated loss is $200,000.

Fire investigators believe an electrical short in the wall of a second floor apartment was the cause.
