A man in his 70’s was pronounced dead after the farm tractor he was operating was struck from behind by an SUV on South Lake road in Pembroke on Friday evening.
According to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, the tractor, an older model Massey-Ferguson, was traveling north when it was rear ended. The collision caused the tractor to overturn, pinning the operator, Roger A. Sweet, of Pembroke, underneath.
Sweet was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the SUV, Janet L. Miller, of Rochester, was not injured.
The collision occurred a little before 6p.m. The speed limit in the area is 55mph. The tractor was carrying a bale of hay and was ready to turn into their driveway when the accident occurred.
The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the accident and at this time there have been no charges filed. They are also investigating whether the tractor had lighting or reflective devices.
