GENESEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Liberty street man charged after smuggling contraband into the jail

Jacob J. Sponaugle, 20, of Liberty St., Batavia, is charged with introduction of dangerous contraband into prison 1st, criminal facilitation 4th, conspiracy 5th and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th following an investigation into the smuggling of contraband into the Genesee County Jail on January 19, 2019.

Sponaugle allegedly conspired with others to smuggle contraband items into the jail.

He was arraigned in City Court on April 30, 2019 and jailed on $2,500 cash and $5,000 bond. He re-appeared in Court today at 12:30p.m.

Mark D. Caufield, 25, of Fisher Rd., Rochester, NY, is charged with criminal possession of marijuana 5th(more than 25 grams), aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 1st, operating a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs, and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia 2nd following a traffic offenses complaint on Clinton street in Batavia on April 21, 2019.

Caufield was arraigned in the Town of Batavia Court and was jailed on $2,500 cash or bond bail. He will re-appear in court on May 20, 2019 at 1:00p.m.
