WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/Pike man charged after being found with unsecured firearms and no permit for a handgun

On May 8, 2019, the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office arrested Gregory Miller, 59, of Pike on the charge of criminal possession of a firearm, a felony, at a residence in the Town of Pike.

A Deputy was at the residence to assist Wyoming County Child Protective Services who were there following up on an unrelated matter. While assisting at the residence, the Deputy located in plain view, several loaded long guns and a loaded .357 revolver.

These firearms were not secured and were within areas the children had access to. Miller was questioned about the firearms and if he had a pistol permit to possess the handgun.

Miller advised that he did not have a pistol permit.

Miller was subsequently charged and issued an appearance ticket. Miller is to answer the charge on today in Pike Town Court.

Carlos I. Ortiz-Melendez, 31, of Reading, PA, was arrested following a traffic stop on State Route 20A in the Town of Sheldon on May 10, 2019.

Ortiz-Melendez was stopped after being observed swerving in and out of his lane into oncoming traffic.

Ortiz-Melendez was found to have a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license, however his operating privileges in New York State were suspended three times.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd, failure to keep right, and unauthorized colored lights on vehicle.

Ortiz-Melendez was arraigned in the Town of Sheldon Court where bail was set in the amount of $250.00 cash or $2,500.00 bond.

He was taken to the Wyoming County Jail, and is scheduled for further court proceedings on June 25, 2019 in the Town of Sheldon Court.

Thomas A. Lyle, 60, of Angola, was arrested following a traffic stop on State Route 39 in the Town of Arcade on May 11, 2019.

Deputies stopped Lyle after a check of his vehicle’s registration showed the NYS Inspection had been expired since 2017. During the stop it was determined that Lyle had a forged homemade inspection sticker displayed on the vehicle and his license had also been suspended since 2011.

Lyle is charged with unlicensed operation, aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd, uninspected motor vehicle, and displayed a fictitious inspection certificate.

He was released and will answer the charges on June 6, 2019 in the Town of Arcade Court.

William A. Brooker, 51, of Dansville, was arrested following a traffic stop on State Route 63 in the Town of Covington on May 10, 2019.

Brooker was found to be operating a vehicle with a suspended registration due to lack of insurance. He is charged with operation with suspended registration and operation without insurance.

Booker will answer the charges on June 3, 2019 in the Town of Covington Court.

Caitlyn Meeder, 30, of Warsaw was arrested following a traffic stop in the Town of Middlebury on May 11, 2019.

Meeder was traveling north on Dale road when her vehicle became disabled in the driving lane and was then located by Deputy McGinnis on routine patrol.

Meeder failed road side sobriety tests and she was subsequently arrested for DWI. Meeder submitted to a breath test which showed her BAC to be over 0.18%.

Meeder is charged with DWI, aggravated DWI and driving with a BAC of .18% or more. She was issued appearance tickets, and is to appear in the Town of Warsaw Court on May 20, 2019.

Jeremy Lapiana, 30, of Cohocton, NY, was arrested following a traffic stop on Eaton Road in the Town of Perry on May 8, 2019.

Lapina was stopped for a vehicle and traffic infraction.

During investigation, it was learned that Lapiana had a suspended driver’s license in New York State from a previous DWI conviction. He was subsequently charged with driver’s view obstructed, no distinctive license plate, unlicensed operator, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 3rd and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle 2nd.

Lapiana was released on an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Perry Court on May 29, 2019 at 6:00P.M.
