BATAVIA/Habitat for Humanity dedicates 22nd home

Habitat for Humanity dedicated it’s 22nd home since 1999 on Wednesday evening at 4961 East Main street in Batavia.

Lisa Paul Kahn and her 7 year old daughter Zarah will be moving in this weekend. Kahn started volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and fell in love with the location, the house and the 6 acres of land when she showed up to help gut the home last July.

By the fall of 2018, Kahn was working on the house and putting in her sweat equity to make the house a home with the help of many volunteers, friends, family and strangers.

The house was donated by Bill Baskin and Susan Blackburn in memory of Jayson Dursham who worked for Baskin and lived at the home with his family before he passed away after a one car motor vehicle accident in Alexander in February of 2017.

After receiving gifts from the Habitat Board of Directors, the Resurrection Quilt Guild, hanging a Mezuzah on the rear door, along with sharing several prayers, the home was ready for Kahn and her daughter.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for everything that they’ve done,” says Kahn.

“I can’t believe the amount of time from college students, to retired folks, that they put into this for complete strangers. Just the amount of selfless giving, its incredible and very inspiring, I am blessed and very lucky.”
