GENESEE COUNTY/The GPS lied, truck strikes railroad bridge in Stafford

A tractor trailer traveling east on Griswold road in Stafford struck the CSX railroad bridge about 8:30a.m. this morning.

The road is currently closed as crews unload about 40,000 lbs of beets from the trailer, a towing agency will make the trailer flat again and pull it away from the bridge.

According to Deputy Chris Erion, the driver was following his GPS when he did not make it under the bridge.

The posted sign on the bridge says 11’6″

Erion says the tractor trailer was much taller than the posted sign.

The truck was not going very fast at the time of the accident. CSX came out to inspect the bridge that was constructed in 1902 and it did not suffer any damage.

Th driver was issued a traffic ticket for not following the posted height limit.
