The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a tractor trailer-car fatal motor vehicle accident that occurred on RT. 63 at the intersection of Rt. 19 in the Town of Pavilion about noon on Saturday.
9-1-1 Dispatchers received a call reporting a crash at the intersection with serious physical injury and entrapment.
Investigators say a 2007 Mercury four door sedan, driven by Robert G. Daniels, 81, of Warsaw, was south on Rt. 19 when he allegedly failed to stop for a red traffic signal at the intersection and struck the passenger side of a Manac trailer that was attached to a 2019 International. The semi, being operated by Michael D. Dunn, 69, of Prescott. Ontario, was headed north on Rt. 63.
Dunn was not injured in the collision. Daniels was pronounced dead at the scene by Genesee County Coroner Tom Douglas.
The investigation is ongoing as to the reason why Daniels failed to stop at the red traffic signal as he was traveling south on Rt. 19.
The accident is being investigated by Deputy Kevin Forsyth. Assisting at the scene was Sgt. Andrew Hale, Deputy Chris Erion, Investigator James Diehl, the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office Crash Management team members, Sgt. Jason Saile, Deputy Rich Schildwaster, trooper Matt Luft with the NYS Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and members of the Town of Pavilion Fire Dept.
