BATAVIA/Habitat for Humanity continues the tradition of Women’s Build thanks to a generous community

The traditional sponsor of national Women’s Build did not participate this year in a popular volunteer day for Habitat for Humanity, so the group decided to create a fundraising committee and hold their own solo Women’s Build event for the first time.

The goal was to raise $5,000, but a generous Genesee County community came together and raised $6,000 to purchase the building supplies needed for Habitat’s latest project, a new build at 45 Clifton avenue in the City of Batavia.

Today, 37 women showed up at the Northgate Church parking lot on Bank street to construct framing walls for the new home. They will be transported to the site once construction begins.

With the help of Habitat’s Construction Manager P.J Riner and his team, along with Habitat volunteers, the walls were completed.

Quella Polk, a single mom of three children, ages 17, 9, and 3 can’t wait to move in at 45 Clifton avenue. It is the family’s first home.
