BATAVIA/Town looking into a connector building between highway building and Town Hall

The Town of Batavia is looking into connecting the highway department building to the Town Hall by constructing a connector building.

At Wednesday nights regular Town Board meeting, the Town Board voted 4-0 to have Design and Drafting by Gina, LLC submit a proposal for additional services for a conceptional floor plan and elevations at a cost of $60.00 per hour, not to exceed $2,500.

The Town of Batavia has been working with Design and Drafting by Gina, of Batavia, since last July when the Town was looking to do an interior remodel and a reallocation of space along with a build out at the Town Hall.

“As we got into it, there wasn’t really a way to fit all that in and still provide the court with what they needed,” says Greg Post, Town Supervisor.

The Town Hall was completed in 2002.

In 2012, the building ran out of room. The Town of Batavia has experienced significant economic growth and has added staff over the years to keep up with the growth in the Town.

“Right now I don’t have an office, we do not have a conference room and we don’t have a lot of places for the Town Board people to meet. The Planning Board room is booked on a regular basis,” says Post.

Post says the set up now has 7 people working in an open room separated by partitions. Half of the staff usually works out of their vehicles or on a cell phone outside the back door.

“There is no place to concentrate,” says Post.

The Town has digitized most of their engineering paperwork, but hard copies still need to remain in house and available during the construction process.

At this point the Town is looking for renderings and everything is preliminary.

“We are looking to see if this is feasible, looking to see how we will navigate traffic, the drive-thru and parking.”
