According to Michael Wasilco, Regional Wildlife Manager/Division of Fish and Wildlife for NYSDEC, preliminary results after the initial exam of the deer show that the deer was found to have a brain abscess which can cause altered behavior .
A full necropsy will not be performed until rabies test results come back.
The DEC was called to Bernd road near the creek, on August 17th after residents spotted the deer walking in circles for about 3 hours.
According to Wasilco, a brain abscess is something commonly seen in bucks.
