BATAVIA/Four people displaced after electrical fire in bathroom

The City of Batavia Fire Department along with police responded to 18 East Avenue, at Walker Place, for an apartment fire early Saturday morning.

When police arrived on scene, smoke was showing and all occupants of the apartment house had safely evacuated.

The fire was quickly extinguished in the upstairs apartment in the bathroom. Two adults and an infant who lived in the upstairs apartment were checked out on scene by Mercy EMS.

One cat was able to get out of the house on its own and one other cat was rescued by firefighters and given oxygen on scene.

The resident in the lower apartment was also affected with some water damage in the kitchen area. She is okay and is staying with family.

The upstairs apartment suffered fire, smoke and water damage in the bathroom area. The cause of the fire appears to be electrical according to City of Batavia Fire.

The utilities have been shut off to the structure. It is unknown if Red Cross or the Salvation Army will be assisting the family on the second floor.
