Section 5/Football/Notre Dame defeats York/Pavilion in home opener

The 2019 Notre Dame Fighting Irish came out of the first quarter with a 13-0 lead on two touchdowns by Jedidiah Reese.

With Gabe Macdonald running the offense at quarterback, the Irish were able to take a 19-0 lead in the second quarter and Notre Dame was in the driver’s seat.

Late in the 2nd quarter, the York/Pavilion Golden Knights came alive with a long pass from quarterback James Kennedy to Josh Davis to put the Golden Knights on the board.

After blocking a punt, Kadin Peete capitalized on the field position and scored a touchdown late in the 2nd quarter to make the score 19-14.

After adding 2 points in a conversion play, the two teams went to the locker room with the Irish holding on to a 19-16 lead.

In the 3rd quarter, Macdonald sent a long pass down field to Mark Sanders Jr. who made it to the endzone untouched.

The Irish then went for two, Macdonald pushed his way in to make the score 27-16 in the 3rd quarter.

The Irish then sealed the win with an interception mid way through the 4th quarter. Sanders Jr. had the ball drop into his arms during a pass attempt and he was able to hold on.

Macdonald then tossed another long ball down field to Sanders Jr. who ran it in for another touchdown. The two point conversion was good and the final score was 35-16.

Next week the Irish will travel to Perry(0-1) on Thursday night and York/Pavilion will travel to Canisteo-Greenwood(1-0) on Friday night.
