WYOMING COUNTY SHERIFF’S REPORT/LeRoy woman jailed without bail after traffic stop in Covington

Heather M. Spiegel, 45, of LeRoy, was arrested following a traffic stop on Route 19 in the Town of Covington on September 28, 2019 at 11:38a.m.

Spiegel was stopped by deputies for an expired vehicle registration.

Spiegel was found to have a revoked NYS driver’s license from multiple DWI related revocations. She was also found in possession of an open bottle of vodka, and following field sobriety testing Spiegel was arrested for DWI.

She then refused to submit to a chemical test.

Spiegel, who had three prior convictions for DWI in the past ten years, was charged with third offense felony DWI, a Class D Felony. Spiegel was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation 1st, operating out of ignition interlock restriction, consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and unregistered motor vehicle.

Spiegel was arraigned in the Town of Covington Court. Due to having two prior felony convictions, Spiegel was held without bail in the Wyoming County Jail until further court appearance on October 21, 2019.

On September 22, 2019 at approximately 2:27a.m., Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Centerline Road in the Town of Sheldon for failure to keep right.

While speaking with the operator, Jeffrey Knab, 51 of Varysburg, Deputies began to observe signs of impairment and a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the vehicle.

Knab did submit to field sobriety testing and was subsequently placed in custody for DWI after he performed poorly. Knab also submitted to a breath test, and was subsequently charged with aggravated DWI, driving with a BAC of .18% or greater (Felony due to prior conviction), DWI(Felony due to prior conviction), and failure to keep right.

Knab was arraigned in the Town of Warsaw Court and remanded to the Wyoming County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to the Town of Sheldon court on October 22, 2019 for further proceedings.

Keith M. Hennard, 36, of Fillmore, NY, was arrested following an investigation on Church Road in the Town of Bennington on September 26, 2019.

Deputies were investigating a separate complaint when Hennard drove a vehicle into the driveway. Hennard, who had six active suspensions on his driver’s license, including one for DWAI/alcohol, was subsequently arrested and charged with aggravated unlicensed operation 2nd and aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd.

Hennard was released from the scene and is scheduled to answer the charges in the Town of Bennington Court on October 14, 2019.

Brian D. Mcinnis, 26, of Leroy was arrested on September 25th, following a traffic stop on Route 19 in the Town of Warsaw.

Mcinnis was stopped by deputies for a headlight violation along with having an expired NYS inspection. During the roadside investigation, it was found that Mcinnis had a suspended license due for failing to answer a prior summons.

Mcinnis is charged with inadequate headlamp, uninspected motor vehicle, and aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree. He was released to a third party and will answer the charges on October 21, 2019 in the Town of Warsaw Court.

On September 21, 2019 at approximately 3:13a.m., Wyoming County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Route 20A in the Town of Perry for failure to keep right.

While speaking with the operator, Douglas Weber, 35, of Springwater, NY, Deputies began to observe signs of impairment and a strong odor of alcohol emitting from the vehicle.

Weber did submit to field sobriety testing and was subsequently placed in custody for DWI after he performed poorly. Weber also submit to a breath test, and was subsequently charged with DWI, driving with a BAC .08% or greater, failure to keep right, and unlawful possession of marijuana. Weber was issued appearance tickets and is scheduled to appear in the Town of Perry Court on October 2, 2019 for further proceedings.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office arrested Hussein Challoob, 24, of Cheektowaga, following a traffic stop on Route 39 in the Town of Pike on September 24, 2019.

Deputies on patrol observed Challoob to be speeding above the posted 55 MPH speed zone. A traffic stop was conducted and it was found that the vehicle was suspended for insurance lapse.

Challoob was arrested and issued citations for speeding and operating a suspended registration. Challoob is to answer the charges on October 15, 2019 at 7:00 PM in the Town of Pike court.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office arrested Nathan R. McCarthy, 31, of Burlington , MA, following a traffic stop on Route 20A in the hamlet of Perry Center on September 24, 2019.

Deputies on patrol observed McCarthy speeding above the posted speed limit.

During the traffic stop it was found that McCarthy was suspended for failing to answer a summons. He was issued citations for aggravated unlicensed operation 3rd and speeding in zone.

McCarthy is to answer the charges on October 16, 2019 at 6:00p.m. in the Town of Perry Court.

The Wyoming County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two car motor vehicle collision which occurred on Route 19 at Murphy Road in the Town of Pike on September 28, 2019.

Howard Schnauffer was operating a 2010 Chevrolet suburban eastbound on Murphy Road. The Schnauffer vehicle failed to stop at the yield sign at the intersection of Route 19 and collided with a 2014 Chrysler, sending both vehicle’s off the southeast corner of the intersection.

The 2014 Chrysler overturned.

Schnauffer is charged with failure to stop at a yield sign and is scheduled to answer the summons in the Town of Pike Court.

Schnauffer and the driver of the other vehicle were both transported to the Wyoming County Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries, and the passenger in the other vehicle was uninjured.

Pike Ambulance, Gainesville Ambulance, Medic 80, Barbers Towing and Tallman’s Garage all assisted at the scene.
