BATAVIA/Arrest made in robbery at local hotel

On October 6, 2019 at approximately 11:30 PM, the Batavia Police Department was informed of a strong-arm robbery which had just occurred at a local business.

Officers responded and were informed the suspect had fought with the clerk while trying to get away. The clerk was not injured. The suspect was able to flee after taking less than $500.00 from the business. A suspect was quickly developed through the investigation, but attempts to locate him at the time were unsuccessful.

Thomas P. Moynihan, age 44, of State Street, Batavia, NY, was arrested, without incident, on October 7, 2019 after being spotted near the Batavia High School.

The surrounding schools were placed in a temporary lockout status (no one in or out of the building) as a precaution until Moynihan was in custody.

Moynihan is charged with Burglary 3rd, Robbery 3rd, Petit Larceny and Harassment 2nd. Moynihan was arraigned in Batavia City Court before Judge Balbick on October 8, 2019 at 9:30 AM.
