BATAVIA/City Council hears about aggressive deer and problem landlords in Tuesday night meeting

City Council learned of an aggressive deer problem on State street near the high school during the public comments section of Tuesday nights Business Meeting.

Russell Nephew talked about being forced back into his house after a group of 5-6 aggressive deer in his backyard came at him. He says the problem is serious. Nephew requested help from the City and if they could contact the DEC to help out.

A resident, who is also a hunter, then spoke about the possibility of doing a bait and shoot to thin the herd in the area.

Council also heard from John Roach who requested that the City post how many times police respond to a landlord’s properties so tenants know this information before renting. Also how many visits Code Enforcement has made to the property.

  1. Any posting of Police contact should include what the contact is for. A landlord should not be penalized for a tenants that require medical emergency responses. In the past some idiot Council persons cited Police contacts at one of my properties for 911 medical emergencies. Crazy stupid.

  2. How is it that Landlords are responsible for the actions of tenants? Aggressive deer that is laughable

  3. Connie nephew Porter

I’m sure city resources will go to fencing around the city to prevent aggression from deer. As a general rule, aggression is not commonplace from deer unless they feel threatened. Rutting, is taking place this time of year ie, mateing, end buck can become aggressive. Solution, erect a stockade fence. Can’t just kill the dear!

  4. The deer were here first. Humans continually encroach on the habitats of deer and other wildlife. Then people complain that they’re too close. Of course the only solution is to kill them and it’s a damn shame. So many buildings sit empty and yet more and more new ones get built and more and more wildlife habitat is claimed. It’s all too reminiscent of the theft of Native American lands. They were killed too when they tried to keep their homeland.
